Dr. Li-Ta Hsu and Dr. Weisong Wen received a TechConnect 2021 Global Innovation Award in the area of AI, Data, Cyber & Software at the Washington DC TechConnect World Innovation Conference and Expo.
The recognized technology, 3D LiDAR Aided GNSS Precise Positioning for L4 Autonomous Driving, connects LiDAR perception with GNSS precise positioning. The PolyU AAE announcement describes the system as supporting centimetre-level positioning for mobile mapping systems used to build high-definition maps for Level-4 autonomous-driving vehicles in urban environments.
The recognition highlights IPNL’s work on environment-aware GNSS: using scanning LiDAR point clouds to perceive the surrounding environment and improve GNSS positioning in dense cities.
